HOLTZ RUBENSTEIN REMINICK HONORED WITH NATIONAL WORKPLACE AWARD: Receives “Best Practices” Honor from American Psychological Association

March 12, 2009 – - Holtz Rubenstein Reminick is thrilled to have won a Best Practices honor from the American Psychological Association (APA) at the annual Psychologically Healthy Workplace Awards ceremony held March 1 in Washington, D.C. The firm was recognized for its career guidance initiative, the CARE (Consulting, Advocacy, Responsibility and Empowerment) Program, which matches HRR staff members with company leaders as mentors.

This practice, an example of promoting employee growth and development, is one component of a psychologically healthy workplace. HRR was one of 10 organizations in the country to receive the Best Practices recognition at the ceremony. The firm is a previous winner of the New York State-Level Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award, qualifying it to be nominated for APA’s Best Practices Honors.

“The CARE program engages employees who are launching their careers, as well as those who are already well-established. It helps employees both manage stress and take advantage of growth opportunities within the firm,” says Albert Frazia, HRR Chief Human Resources Officer.

New employees learn about the program during orientation and within a week of joining HRR are matched with a CARE coach. A training program ensures consistency across coaches and allows for the flexibility of reassignment in the event there is a mismatch between coach and mentee. Since implementing the CARE program, HRR notes improved job satisfaction as well as reduced turnover and high-performing employees,

“With ongoing guidance and encouragement from coaches, employees are better equipped to navigate career concerns, including work-life balance issues. This not only encourages a friendly and supportive work culture but also helps employees take control of their careers and perform at their best,” notes HRR Managing Partner Frank Candia.

“In these tough economic times, a healthy, productive workforce is more important than ever,” says David Ballard, APA’s assistant executive director for corporate relations and business strategy. “Employers who embrace the connection between well-being and organizational performance are better able to develop a high-performing workforce, which demonstrates that investing in employee growth and development can help optimize outcomes for employees and the organization, alike.”

The Best Practices Honors is a national recognition that highlights those local Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award winners with a single program or policy that contributes to a psychologically healthy work environment and meets the unique needs of the organization and its employees. Nominees come from a pool of previous local winners and are selected through a competitive evaluation and judging process.
