Stage I: Initial
Years of Experience: 0 - 2 years
Job titles: Staff, Semi-Senior
- Successfully transition from academic environment to the professional workplace
- Build on general knowledge acquired in college; gain functional understanding of technical concepts and principles applicable to practice area
- Gain understanding of HRR professional/operational standards, procedures, practices, and policies
- Develop proficiency in the use of HRR resources and tools (application software, computer systems/devices, research tools)
- Pursue occupational credentials (CPA, etc.) to secure standing as a professional within your practice area
- Adopt essential work attributes, including time management, organization, self-review, follow up, task commitment, and ownership.
- Adopt essential personal attributes, including effective verbal/written communications, professional ethics, integrity and demeanor, self confidence, interest in self development and professional growth; ability to function efficiently with reasonable direct supervision
Stage II: Intermediate
Years of Experience: 3 - 6 years
Job title: Senior
- Successfully transition to supervisory capacity; day-to-day administration of single engagements or projects; guide and direct assigned staff
- Supplement technical knowledge by gaining understanding of regulatory requirements and higher-level concepts and principles applicable to practice area; developing strong understanding of general economic and business issues and trends.
- Pursue occupational credentials to secure standing as a professional within your practice area
- Continue to build essential work attributes to include engagement/project planning, establishing task priorities, balancing converging and/or conflicting task requirements, execution of engagements or projects from start to finish
- Continue to build essential personal attributes to include strengthening verbal/written communications, increasing interaction with clients, ability to function as a role model to lesser-experienced staff members, develop leadership potential, ability to function efficiently with limited supervision
Stage III: Advanced
Years of Experience: 5 - 8+ years
Job title: Manager
- Successfully complete transition to staff leadership capacity; oversee concurrent engagements or projects; build recognition in business and/or professional community
- Possess advanced technical knowledge applicable to practice area; begin shift to, or emphasis, specialization or industry group, if applicable
- Possess advanced proficiency in the use of HRR resources and tools, e.g. applications software, computer systems and devices, research capabilities
- Possess occupational credentials to secure professional standing within staff member's practice area
- Participate in revenue-producing activities, including marketing and practice development
- Participate in practice management activities, including staff development and continuing professional education programs
- Continue to build essential personal attributes to include the ability to function with minimal supervision
Stage IV: Threshold
Years of Experience: 8+ years
Job titles: Senior Manager, Director
- Successfully transition to senior leadership role in HRR; established recognition in business and/or professional community
- Possess expert-level technical knowledge applicable to practice area and become recognized specialist in specialization or industry group, if applicable
- Possess expert-level proficiency in the use of HRR resources and tools, e.g. applications software, computer systems and devices, research capabilities
- Considered a key Firm contact by clients, in addition to partners
- Participate successfully in revenue-producing activities, including marketing and practice development
- Continue to build essential personal attributes, including the ability to function independently and exercise sound professional business/professional judgment
